I am now (almost!) sure the crash site is at/near Ascheberg Germany. In the photos attached, the first one is definitely a picture of a flak site near Ascheberg. I have several similar photos with the distinctive Ascheberg church tower in the background. The rest of the photos are all from a different roll of film and the one shows the same distinctive round building shown in the first photo. The photographer, who was a member of a flak crew, probably saw an aircraft hit and started taking pictures. They show what looks like a plane coming down and then, when it got light, the wreckage of a Halifax bomber from RAF 51 Squadron, MH-J. For various reasons, I think it is aircraft serial # HR 842, lost on a mission over Dortmund, May 23-34, 1943. What do you think? -

Thank you for your well done answer to my question. I don't feel like a dummy now. And, thank you for the black Luftschutz medal pictures. A picture is worth a thousand words. -

Not a 1957 (57er) version of the award. The swastika was removed from those authorized awards. -

Hey Tipton Yes, I think by the smoothness of the finish would make me double check that one, not as sharp detailing. Also looks like they did various pins, but DH...couldn't find it as a maker🤷♂️ I always use this site as reference for this type of stuff: https://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/war_badges/heer/infantry_assault.htm its fantastic. a lot of information -

Not to digress, but these are outstanding inages of the wartime issue Luftschutz medal in zinc, commonly referred to as the "heavy version". Source: https://www.militariasales.com/product/german-1938-luftschutz-air-raid-defense-medal-heavy-version/ -

Just acquired this with a group of items and thought it was interesting. Although I cannot read any of it, I can see that this woman travelled from Germany to Turkey. By the dates I am seeing, this may have been among the last German civilian trips to Turkey until the war was over. Turkey was neutral until the very end of the war. Citizens of combatant nations could not travel to Turkey during the war, other than for some business purposes and diplomatic activities. I suppose It is possible she had some business or diplomatic role. Anyway, just thought someone might enjoy seeing it. And may someone can interpret anything interesting for the rest of us. -

Based on its shiny intact finish, probably a "newer" fake or an older fake that's been refinished. There's some bubbling in spots.
