The piping is White, White for Infantry? If so what unit is this for?, as the 1st Regiment of the Waffen SS would be the 1st Panzer Grenadier Regiment of the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler, and they as we know wore the LAH Monogram not a number 1. -

These troops interestingly are in India 1942, no doubt that large force under the American General Joseph Stilwell, they are probably photoed around the time they arrived for assignment, and in due course will be equipped with British Helmets and those wide mesh Indian made helmet nets, as well as the other British gear etc. -

Really interesting items. Anecdotally, I once worked with a former South African Special Forces soldier who fought for years in the Bush War. For his then current job he had to take an oral test. The test giver asked if he had ever killed anyone (think criminally). My then colleague said 'yes'. This answer startled the test giver. And the test giver said 'who?'. And my e-colleague said, 'I have no idea' which perplexed the test giver. He then told the test giver he fought in the Bush War for about 4 years and killed hundreds and he himself had been shot multiple times on multiple occasions. The test giver was at a loss for words from what I heard at the time. -
